678 Course Refleciton

This was a FANTASTIC course. Not only did I further my education by gathering knowledge from other professionals within the educational field, but I also grew as an individual in my own teachings.

Again, I can't stress enough how important collaboration is within the educational system. From classroom discussion's I learned so much from my fellow educators. I consider myself to have a good grasp on my field of education, but when I start hearing of the resources that other teachers are using and how they're using them in the classroom my mind starts thinking about how I will incorporate that into my class and I wonder if I can use that same resource to help my students improve their learning within my class. This type of opportunity doesn't come often within the educational system, because most of us have NO time to just sit and dicuss what we are doing within our classroom. Additionally, this experience humbles my. As an educator I always want to continue to grow my practice and not think I have it all figured it, nobody does. Bouncing ideas off each other is for sure one of the most beneficial experiences I took from this course.

Another thing that stuck with me from this course was the Project Based Learning experience. This is something I will incorporate within my Special Education classroom. The benefits from a PBL experience truly can last a lifetime. Within a PBl students are students are actually trying to solve complex real-worl problems which promotes student learning. In addition, this assignment focuses on the students interests...so they're motivated to learn and actually have a say in what they want to learn. This experience completely flips the classroom from the teacher being the teacher to the student actually reseraching and solving/learning about the issue on their own.

This course did an excellent job helping me grow as an educator and I thank each one of my classmates for providing me with different ways on to improve my teaching abilities.

  1. Kevin,
I agree. The class discussions are some of the most valuable to me as well! I picked up on several new management tips! I always appreciate hearing what other teachers are doing that works. Best of luck!

  2. Kevin,
Like you, I also write about the benefits of problem based learning in my course reflection. I could not agree more - I think the benefits will last a lifetime! I think it is extremely important to use problem based learning in the classroom in order to foster critical thinkers. Encouraging students to think about issues in our world, and then how to solve these problems is an imperative skill! Best of luck!

  3. Kevin,
I completely agree about collaborating with peers and bouncing ideas around! I wrote about that in my reflection, as well. It is almost overwhelming the amount of tech tools, devices, apps, etc. that are available, so anytime an educator personally recommends something...I'm much more likely to try it. I know you mentioned the special education classroom; I'm an EL teacher and I've found this class really useful for thinking about how I can modify/scaffold assignments for my students, especially when they are in a mainstream classroom. Have a great rest of the year!

  4. Kevin, I enjoy how you make mention of the collaboration. In truth, I would agree that it is the most valuable component to the learning that takes place. The most beneficial aspect is reading the articles, making meaning, then sharing the application to what we have done, or could do, to impact our students' learning. Thanks for sharing- Eric

  5. Yeah the idea of the flip is awesome, and we have learned about so many tools that we can use to make the flip happen successfully. This course has been super helpful in so many ways, but the most important has been grazing the surface of some seriously awesome teaching ideas and tools that we can delve into long after the course is over. Thanks for the post.
