675 Course Relection Post

Prior to this course I had NO CLUE about the SAMR model. This concept on the progression of integrating technology into the classroom has really opened my eyes on my teaching. It has provoked me to ask the question, "What purpose is this technology serving in my classroom?" By asking myself this question, I have been able to reflect on my teaching. Now I am constantly thinknig about how I incorporate technology and if it is at the approproiate SAMR stage for the lesson at hand.

Another way in which I have grown from this course is by discovering new platforms (gizmos, evernote, genius scan, Pixlr, WeVideo, Seesaw, classdojo, google classroom, etc.) to try within my classroom. Especially from scrolling through class discussions, I have been able to also see how educators are using these different platforms within their classroom. I have already started incoprotating SeeSaw into my daily teaching!

Lastly, I think one of the biggest ways this course has help me grown is through the Desiging Digital Learning Experiences activities/resources and the 4C's (Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking) of digital learning. Being a Special Educator it can be a challenge to incorporate technology into your daily activities. However, when thinking about the 4C's I am able to think about what the purpose of the technology is, what kind of lesson I want to design, and most importantly how can I differentate the lesson for my students different learning needs.

This course has really made an impact on me and my proffessional development. Now I am always thinknig about how I can incorporate technology within my classroom to better serve my students learning needs. I am constantly thinking, what purpose is this technology going to serve, is it apporpriate for the lesson, and most importantly what other technologic platforms can I start putting in place...Thank you 675 you were awesome and I learned a lot from you all!

  1. Kevin,

It's great that you've learned so much by taking this course. When we complete a course like this the assignments become opportunities to try out many of the different apps available for students and teachers. I know for myself that learning by doing makes it much more likely that I will continue to use the technology in the future. I adopted Seesaw as a part of my classroom after taking another technology course. If I had not taken the course I don't know that I would have gone out of my way to learn about all that Seesaw had to offer.

I can relate to your statement about the challenge of incorporating technology with your students. My kindergarten students certainly bring challenges when incorporating technology. When we as teachers grow in confidence with the use of technology, we can and do pass that along to our students.

  2. Kevin,

I agree that the discussion posts were a crucial element to this course! It's amazing what you learn from your colleagues. I agree that it was extremely helpful to see how other people implemented the different tools in their classroom. Sometimes it is difficult to explore the tool without knowing ways of how to incorporate it. Being a special education teacher also, I can definitely relate to the statement "it can be a challenge to incorporate technology into your daily activities". Sometimes it just takes so long to get the students even logged on! However, I do agree that learning about SAMR and the 4 C's allows me to see the purpose of the technology and therefore I am more likely to use it and my students are more likely to learn from it. Thanks for all your feedback throughout the course! Good luck in the future!

  3. Kevin, appreciate you sharing here and throughout the course! I, like you, had never heard of the SAMR model. After learning about it, it was a very intriguing topic for modifying my classroom learning structures. As a fellow Special education teacher, I find that it is hard to hit each step of this model, but some of the basic portions can benefit our students greatly and give them the ability to access the curriculum in new ways rather than traditional pen and pencil while also developing their social and collaboration skills.

Best of luck in your future endeavors!
